6 Month Doctor’s Apt.

May 5th, 2009 Posted in Uncategorized | no comment »

Today was Annabelle’s 6 month appointment, and she’s all healthy! Moreover, in the last 10 days she’s gained more than an ounce a day.

She went from 17 pounds and 7 ounces a week ago Friday, to 18 pounds and 4 ounces today.

She’s in the 90th percentile for height, weight, and head size.

But she’s fussing now, so I’ve got to cut this blog update short.

Annabelle’s Family and a Wedding

Although sometimes it feels like we’re pretty far away from you all, it’s helpful for me to remember that Annabelle does indeed have quite a large family.

By my most recent count Annabelle has a mother, father, dog, and cat in her most immediate (and Durham based) family.

Added to that are 6 uncles and 1 aunt (Jordan, Chris, Neil, Dakota, Joe, Johanna, and Matthew) plus

  • 3 Grandmothers (Pamela, Brooke and Amy)
  • 2 Grandfathers (Rick & Trey)
  • 4 Great Grandmothers (Pat, Barb, Phyllis, and Neva —  AKA —  G.G., Grannie, Bahmah, and Mimi)
  • 2 Great Grandfathers (Dale & Tom)
  • 8 very special Great Aunts & Uncles (Trisha + Kuo & John + Jan & Bridget & Blaine & Brent + Rochelle  )
  • 5 delightfully sweet cousins (Lucas, Kate, Allison, Madison, and Noah)
  • 10 grand Great Great Aunts and Uncles (Harry, Doug, Alice, Mary Alyce, Duane, Janet, Janice, Bubba, Jean, and Archie)
  • not to mention 3 amazing adopted Aunts in Sara, Sara, & Gwen.

  • …and that’s just the family members she has already met or is very soon to meet!

Annabelle’s family stretches across the country, from sea to sea, including North Carolina, New Jersey, Tennessee, Illinois, Nebraska, Texas, and California!

And, I’m excited to say, it will be increasing by one more member, as her uncle (my brother Joe Owens) will be marrying his fiance Yomayra in Puerto Rico less than 2 weeks from today!

I grew up in a wonderful, but small family. I’m excited that my daughter will get to grow up with such a wonderful and large one.

To all you family members of mine and hers who read this blog, I want you to know that you’re appreciated.

Bonus News: Check back soon as there are some really great photo shoots we’re going to be uploading as soon as our sketchy internet connection allows!

    Hungry Face

This is me yesterday. Look at my cute hungry face!

Hey y’all.  Just another update here from Durham.  The forumula that mom & dad have been giving me (Enfamil w/ Lipil) has been upsetting my stomach the last week or so.  They switched day before yesterday to giving me 1/2 regular formula, and 1/2 partially digested formula.  That helped for a little while, but I’m still having some trouble with it.  I guess I just can’t wait to move on to cheesecake, cous cous, pad thai, chicken tikka masala, and all the other good foods I see mom & dad eating every day. It’s not fair that I don’t have teeth yet to eat them!

In other news, I’ve developed a new appreciation for my Elephant friends.  They’re the ones that hang from my play gym, they’re good packaderms for sure.  The one that rotates (blue I think is what they call him) is the best.  Very tasty.

That’s it from me, hope things are good in your part of the world.

    -baby peace out.

    They Grow Up So Fast…

We’ve really let time get away from us here on the Annablog. We were still posting strong up until the last week in December before the whole family was slated to fly to Omaha for the holidays. At that point we switched into “oh no, we’re about to leave town!” mode.

We were out of town, and busily pulled between family gatherings until nearly the end of December, and just when everyone arrived safe and sound back home in Durham, I came down with a really nasty stomach flu (that I’m just now getting over).

It’s been an amazing 3 weeks in Annabelle’s development and I’m looking forward to getting all the updates posted soon so y’all can see them.  She’s grown up beautifully and is starting really be able to lift her head and hold it up to look around.  This has lead to an exponential increase in her curiosity about the world, and her recenty discovery that her hands are in fact a permanent part of her body.

While we haven’t been posting, we have been keeping good records using our camera and videocamera– so we’ll have some photosets and videos up shortly.

Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if our Lilly dog and Annabelle herself have a few posts they’ve been meaning to publish.

It’s 2009, and our collective resolution from the Owens/ Owens-Ream/ Bianchini–clan here in Durham, is to keep this blog well updated.

Thanks for reading, and check back for more soon!

    The Big Bang

Dec 12th, 2008 Posted in annablogging, scientist | no comment »
    the-big-bang

My Dad has been reading me this book lately called The First Three Minutes by some nobel-prize somthing or another guy. Basically, it’s about the first three minutes of the universe and how all this stuff around us came to be here.

I guess he thought that the Buddhist literature and other metaphysical stuff he was reading me last week was too advanced for my age.  That’s why I think he decided to switch to the comparativley simple field of astrophysics instead.

Cosmology or Cosmogony or Cosmetology… I don’t care much what he reads.  I just like the steady sound of his voice, and especially the parts where he gets excited.  Don’t tell him that though, I think he wants me to be a scientist or something.

Anyway, while he was reading to me last night (the orgin of the universe book) I was actually really getting into it.  I let him know I was enjoying the book by smiling a lot, giggling, and waving my arms during the good parts. I think he got the message.

And then, just when we were getting to the really exciting, the good stuff about the big bang–

–I had a big bang of my own, in my diaper. I guess I got too excited.

That was the end of the reading for the night, but I’m hoping we’ll read some more tomorrow.

Well, goodnight blog, I plan on dreaming  all night long about moons and stars and galaxies.

That is, until three am.  At 3 I’m planning to wake mom and dad up to feed me, and then I’ll probably cry once every 45 minutes until the sun comes up to make sure they don’t forget about me.

    blog-is-go

We’ve still got plenty of kinks to work out, but nonetheless this Annablog is officially up and running! We’ll be publishing pretty much daily new posts, updates, and photos for the next month at least, so check back often.

In order to write comments on the posts, you need to be logged in. In order to log in, you need to register with this website.

Registering is an easy 2 step process.

Step 1 involves filling out your first & last names, your email, and answering a simple “captcha” question to prove you’re not an evil internet spam robot. Registering also helps Annabelle’s mom & dad know who is reading the blog, and who is having technical difficulties.

Bonus reason to register: we’ll sometimes post special content that only registered users can read!

Step 2 is just clicking on a link in an automatic email we’ll send you, to confirm that you’re registered!

(bonus step 3: come back to the blog, read it, comment on it!)

You can register by clicking on the “Register” link on the righthand sidebar section labled “meta” or by just going to this link here.

If you’re really confused by all this registering stuff, we’re going to have a quick video up soon showing exactly how it works. So check by in the next 48 hours for that.

If you’re really confused by all this talk of “blogs” “blogging” “wikis” “meta” and other things like that, don’t worry! We’ll have a special Questions & Answers page up by the end of the week just for you!

On October 31st, at 4:25am Eastern Standard time, Annabelle Simone Owens came into the world at the Chapel Hill Memorial Hospital.

7lb 12oz, and about 20 inches head to toes– she came 5 days early, right in time for Halloween.

    This is her blog.
